Available in NV (select above): More suitable for night-time activities. The Kestrel NV units are olive drab with a visible red backlight, which helps sustain the user's natural night vision. Military personnel and pilots flying in darkness are often concerend with preserving their night vision. It takes 30 to 45 minutes for the average eye to adapt to darkness and maximize night vision. Even a short burst of white, yellow, green or blue light “bleaches out” the rod cell photoreceptors in the eye and causes night blindness until the entire adaptation process can take place again. Light in the red spectrum does not cause this “bleaching out”, preventing night blindness and night vision fatigue. The units' red backlight is also much dimmer than a standard backlight, making it more difficult to detect with the naked eye in night operations. The Kestrel® Interface is the ideal companion to the Kestrel 4000 Pocket Weather Tracker or the Kestrel 4100 Pocket Air Flow Tracker. With the optional computer interface, data can be uploaded for long-term storage, in-depth analysis and detailed charting. Simply connect the interface cable to the appropriate port on your PC, rest the Kestrel on the cradle, and upload your stored data. The included software is easy to use and saves the data in a comma delimited text file for use in your choice of applications: text editor, spreadsheet or database. Spare Kestrel Impeller: This is the only moving part in the Kestrel 4000. If it should ever break, you've got a spare! You can change it in the field with no tools. NiteIze Protective Carry Case: The Kestrel 4000 features a flip-top impeller cover that protects the only moving part of the 4000 - the impeller. The Kestrel 4000 also comes with a soft carry pouch, which protects the display from scratches and the unit from dirt. For even more protection, you get this reinforced carry case that make it easier to carry the unit on a belt or pack. This case is available in black and is designed to expose the sensors, allowing the Kestrel 4000 to continue logging accurate readings. It is constructed of a sturdy triple laminate of polyurethane, vinyl and nylon with neoprene rubber sides to hold the Kestrel 4000 snugly. The patented NiteIze™ clip on the back is a nylon/fiberglass composite that accomodates up to a 2 1/4" belt, and also attaches reliably over a waistband. We've added a strong hook and loop strap to allow for easy mounting on a backpack or harness strap.
